- It is a Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) in India.
- It was set up under an Act of the Parliament of India on 10 March 1969.
- Initially, the strength of CISF is 2,800 and was increased to 1,77,713 as of 01.06.2024.
- Works under Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India.
- CISF has 74 other formations including 12 reserve battalions and 08 training institutes.
- CISF was subsequently made an armed force.
- It is directly under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
- Its headquarters are at New Delhi.

- Increase of no. of Battalion
- Each battalion will consist of 1,025 personnel. With this addition, the total number of CISF battalions will increase from 13 to 15.

- In November last year, the government had sanctioned the first-ever all-women CISF reserve battalion comprising more than 1,000 personnel.
