Gangasagar is the confluence of the Hooghly River and the Bay of Bengal in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. Recently, Chief Minister announced to construct a 5-km-long Gangasagar Setu across the Muriganga river to connect the mainland to Sagar Island.[1]
- This mela held annually on Makar Sankranti.
- Regarded as the Second largest Pilgrimage gathering after Kumbh.
- This confluence is also called as Sagar Island.
- Millions of People gather to take a sacred dip in the confluence of River Ganga and the Bay of Bengal and visit the Kapilmuni's ashram located on the Gangasagar.
- This fair or mela also includes rituals, prayers, and cultural activities.
- It is one of the largest religious fairs in India, with both spiritual significance and a sense of community celebration.
